7 Great Books about NYC

If you’re planning a trip, or just dreaming about visiting one day, these are great books about New York City.

Breakfast at Tiffany’s by Turman Capote. The story of a young girl living in New York City in 1943. She’s a “party girl” without a job who gets by dating wealthy men and living on their gifts.

Forever by Peter Hamill. An epic story about a man who comes to New York in 1740 and lives there forever. It is a wonderful walk through the city, and through time.

Sweetbitter by Stephanie Danler. A young girl is drawn to the city and finds herself struggling and working at a high-end restaurant. There is a TV series based on the book that can be streamed on Hulu, Sling tv, Amazon, and Youtube.

The Overdue Life of Amy Byler by Kelly Harms. An overworked mom gets a chance to stay in New York City without her family and transforms through a friend’s magazine coverage of her makeover and the relationships she developed. Her hashtag becomes #Momspringa 

Sex in the City by Candice Bushnell. An anthology of articles written for The New York Observer about her life in New York City later became the HBO hit series.

One Fifth Avenue by Candice Bushnell. A 2008 novel about the residents of a highly sought after building on one of the cities more exclusive avenues.

 Just Kids Patti Smith’s. A 2010 memoir about her life in New York City at the Chelsea Hotel in the late sixties and early seventies with artist Robert Mapplethorpe.
